Web 2.0 Link Building

January 8th 2008 09:24
Web 2.0 is now setting a trend across the online industry. This calls for glossy buttons, bright colored vector websites and the "div" and "css" scripting. The web 2.0 trend has caused the net to be more closely knit and more interactive.

What is web 2.0 actually?

Web 2.0 refers to a supposed second-generation of Internet-based services - such as social networking sites, wikis, communication tools, and folksonomies - that let people collaborate and share information online in ways previously unavailable. (source Wikipedia)

Web 2.0 Link Building

You can now do away with some of the old fashion link building and start manipulating what web now has to offer. Below is just an except from this article, although there are other resources added below as well.

Social Bookmarking

The main function of bookmarking sites is to help people gather their bookmarks or favorite sites online, making them accessible on any computer....

Blog Search Engines

Many bloggers use these services to track articles within their field of interest.

Social Search Sites

Finally, there are sites like digg, Netscape and Reddit, where users suggest and vote for interesting articles.

If you can get your article on the front page of digg, your servers will have a tough time handling all the traffic. And again, many of the users of digg are bloggers and journalists, and may write about your article.

What is RSS really?

RSS is the format for collecting news and other web content. When the content is distributed it is called a feed. A feed contains a list of items, each of which is identified by a link. Each item can have any amount of data associated with it.

A RSS feed however is not just for news. Pretty much anything that can be broken down into discrete items can be syndicated via RSS:

• recently changed pages of a website
• tech support updates
• product news
• announcements
• new listings for a realtor
• job vacancies

The list seems endless. Every business has something unique to put into a RSS feed.

What does RSS do?

RSS feeds keep your audience constantly updated.
They allow people to see your content without having to go to your website. That may seem like a bad idea but in the fast paced world we live in today anything that can save us time is valued. With a newsreader and RSS feeds, the content comes to them.

The Internet is now the number one choice for news and even plain research. There are so many sources on the net that your visitors under your industry won’t get to visit your website daily. But if you offer an RSS feed your news or updates it pops right into their reader.

How do people read RSS feeds?

To receive an RSS feed, you need a newsreader or content aggregator.
You send out your content in an RSS feed and subscribers needs a newsreader to be able to read it.

There are readers available online like Bloglines and my Yahoo. There are also downloadable newsreaders you can install on your desktop. Some, like Pluck, are free, while others aren’t such as NewsGator.

How does RSS help in Search Engine Visibility?

Search engines take note of regularly updated content. A feed brings your site to their attention. By registering your feeds with the search engines it will increase your search visibility.
